Works

Francesco Taskayali’s body of work spans solo piano albums, collaborative records, scores for film and journalism, and music for dance, theatre, and contemporary art installations. His catalog reflects a sustained engagement with what critics have called Mediterranean minimalism — contemporary neoclassical writing grounded in place, landscape, and the textures of the piano.

Albums

HIVERN (2024) is a solo piano album written at altitude in the Alpine Occitan valleys. The record draws on the languages and silences of high mountain landscapes, with track titles in Occitan reflecting the geography in which it was conceived.

Dreambox (Sugar Music, 2024) won the Per Chi Crea grant from the Italian Ministry of Culture. The album was launched at the Auditorium Novecento in Naples in January 2024.

Retrospection (Sugar Music) was reviewed by Rockit’s Francesco Carrubba as the work of “one of the new reference names of Italian instrumental neoclassical music.” The record was presented at the Auditorium Novecento in Naples in April 2025.

Weaving Sound is a collaborative project with cellist Larissa Giers, developed at high altitude in the Western Alps and presented at Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan in May 2025 as part of Piano City Milano.

Pandataria is an earlier work inspired by Ventotene, the small Tyrrhenian island once used as a place of exile by the Romans. The album was presented in concert on Ventotene itself in September 2023.

Scores & Soundtracks

Francesco’s compositions have been used by The Atlantic to score Ian Urbina’s Outlaw Ocean investigative series on the high seas, including reportage from migrant ships off Sicily, abandoned theaters in Venezuela, and the insurrectionary squares of Kiev. He composes for film, dance, theatre, and contemporary art installations, with a particular focus on site-specific projects where music engages with place.
